The condition is caused by the contraction of the uterus as it sheds its lining during menstruation. Polycystic ovarian syndrome is a hormone disorder that affects many women. It occurs when a woman's ovaries produce abnormally high levels of male hormones (androgens), which can result in irregular menstrual cycles, weight gain, acne, and abnormal hair growth. Women with PCOS may also have multiple cysts on their ovaries, although not all women with the condition have visible or symptomatic cysts.

Uterine fibroids are noncancerous growths that develop in the muscle tissue of the uterus. Women who are over the age of 35, have a history of infertility, or are carrying multiples are also considered to be at a higher risk. Identifying and monitoring these conditions are crucial in ensuring a safe and healthy pregnancy for both the mother and baby.
